DOMOTEX 2010 Carpet Design Awards Winners |
On Sunday evening, January 17, the trade fair DOMOTEX HANNOVER provided the setting for the presentation of the Carpet Design Awards (CDA) for 2010. Offering prize money amounting to 10,000 Euros, the CDA celebrate exceptional design, originality and quality in the market segment “Hand-made carpets”.
A total of 124 carpets from 15 countries were entered in the competition for this year’s CDA. A panel of judges comprising internationally acclaimed experts selected the winning entries from the 30 carpets that went through to the final round.
The prize-winners were announced during an entertaining award ceremony on Sunday by Stephan Ph. Kühne, member of the Board of Deutsche Messe AG, and Sebastian Ghandchi, Managing Director of Hali Publications.
The chairman of the panel, David Sorgato commented, “DOMOTEX is truly the only place in Europe where you can see such cutting edge design and creativity. It was utterly exhilarating and challenging for me as the Chairman of the Jury this year to have such a variety of opinions about each shortlisted entry from my colleagues who come from such diverse backgrounds.”
Sebastian Ghandchi, publisher of HALI magazine and COVER modern carpets & textiles for interiors, added, “The Carpet Design Awards are now firmly established as the international mark for excellence and creativity in our market. It is heartening to see so many entries in the current market conditions – a testament to the importance of the CDAs. The fact that so many new companies have taken part – and that some of them have won for the first time – throws down the gauntlet to other exhibitors at the fair to enter the awards next year.”
The CDA finalists' carpets are featured in full in The Carpet Design Review 2010 – a brochure published specifically for the competition. This publication is sent to all contestants as well as interested contacts throughout the trade and, of course, the media. In other words, the carpets that reach the final round receive excellent publicity, thus helping the designers to achieve a name as creative trendsetters. In addition, all 30 carpets will be shown in a special exhibition in Hall 21 until Tuesday, Jan. 19.
