Exhibitor Snapshot: Lapchi
Formed in 2001, Portland-based Lapchi is a high quality producer of
hand-made, custom-made carpets in silk and wool. The company brought an
innovative approach to the market, building its business entirely
around the production of custom carpets. Lapchi will exhibit its 2009
Lapchi and Texere Collections on the 11th floor of 7 W NY.
“This is a time of change in our industry. Some wonder whether a
hand-made, custom-made carpet is a responsible choice in today’s
world," said Kerry Smith, acknowledging Dennis Dodds tireless efforts
on behalf of the show. "Lapchi believes it is the most responsible
choice. Our planet labors under the weight of a disposable culture.
Lasting quality and beauty that endures may hold the key to saving the
world. Visit us in NY or at Lapchi.com to learn more.”

Exhibitor Snapshot: Woven Legends
Woven Legends is synonymous with the Oriental carpet renaissance of the
past quarter-century. The company achieved a pioneering role in the
revival of using natural dyes, hand spun wool, and 'traditional'
designs and weaves. Combined, these features have raised the standards
of the Oriental carpet as a truly contemporary art form and has given
Woven Legends international recognition and acclaim.
This year at NYICS, Neslihan Christobel Jevremovic, co-owner of the
company, will participate in a panel discussion with three
distinguished New York interior designers. They will discuss the
benefits of integrating the Oriental carpet into a design at the early
stages of planning.
Another goal of this panel is to encourage a working dialogue between
designers, retailers and carpet producers to explore cooperative ways
in which more business can be generated using high-end decorative and
Oriental carpets in upscale hospitality, commercial and residential
projects. Neslihan will discuss The Cloisters hotel project in Sea
Island, Georgia where the interior designer specified some 500 carpets
to be made for that famous hotel's interior by Woven Legends.

Exhibitor Snapshot: Siberian Carpet Company, LLC
Elizaveta Kondratieva and her husband started their business in Tyumen,
Siberia as small traders of silk carpets imported from China. Elizaveta
later discovered traditional hand-made carpets made by local families
in different villages of the Russian region since the 19th century.
Handknotted from dense wool using the symmetric Turkish knot, these
rugs pave the way to a revival of this early Siberian cultural
tradition which is mostly unknown in the West. Authentic new designs
will be based on archival documents.
Displaying large, colorful bouquets of robust floral arrangements that
offer a comfortable and welcoming vision of hearth and home, these rugs
express a fresh and exuberant spirit. Smaller rugs were used as warm
blankets on the traditional troika sleighs and carriages, typically
drawn by three horses. Others are placed, even now, on the floor and
hanging on walls to ward off frigid Siberian winters. At NYICS, Mrs.
Kondratyeva will offer for sale several of her company's newly woven
carpets in a variety of festive colors and patterns. Also on display
will be some of the rare antique rugs from the Tyumen Carpet Museum. www.1001carpet.com.
