PETALUMA, CA — For almost a decade, every emma gardner design carpet has proudly carried the GoodWeave label on its underside. It's the only certification that ensures there was no child labor in their production process in India. From June 12th to July 12th, the company will donate 10% of each rug sale to GoodWeave and the organization's efforts to end child servitude and trafficking.
Founded in 1995, GoodWeave is dedicated to improving the lives of "carpet kids" throughout India, Nepal and Afghanistan-transitioning them from loom to classroom.
"As members of the design community, the most powerful thing we can do is join with GoodWeave to build a transparent and humanitarian supply chain. On the 10th anniversary of World Day Against Child Labor, we want to go one step further in honoring the inspiring work of GoodWeave," stated the company's announcement."We have seen firsthand the transformative power of GoodWeave's programs. The organization rescues children-some as young as six-from exploitative work and offers them the educational, medical and social support so that they can actually experience the joy of childhood. They also provide literacy, health care and daycare services for adult artisans throughout South Asia's carpet belt," added Gardner.
